Your Resort Representative

Your Resort Representative is Mike King (Villa Holiday Services) -
Camino del Campamento 128
03724 Teulada-Moraira

TEL: +34 965 744 096 - MOBILE: +34 619 735 436

For your information - Villa Holiday Services is registered with the Tourist Authority, with EEAT-0011-A, and is responsible for all servicing, maintenance, repairs etc. to the villa, gardens and swimming pool.
If you have any problems with the villa you should contact Mike. He is not always in his office during the busy (summer) period so he prefers you to call on his mobile as your number would be recorded.

If your number is withheld then you would need to send him a text message, best to do that as well if your problem is urgent.
Mike will attend to mobile phone calls until 23:00. If you discover a problem late in the evening please do ring him immediately, he would prefer to take your call and have the chance to arrange the remedy as soon as possible.

We do hope that you will have an enjoyable and relaxing time. However, if there are any problems or anything which is hindering your enjoyment of the villa it is important that you contact him immediately. We would like to have the opportunity to remedy any issues, as and when they arise, rather than have them highlighted after you have left the Villa when there will be no chance of improving things.

What you can expect from Villa Holiday Services

·         Preparation before and cleaning after your occupation.

·         Linen (towels, sheets, bathrooms mats and kitchen towels) including changes as agreed.

·         Attendance to faults and technical breakdowns.

·         Support and advice during your holiday.

The Villa will be cleaned and prepared for your arrival; beds will be made up in accordance with your booking arrangements i.e. for the number of people booked into the villa. Linen will be changed after 7 days if you are staying for a minimum of 14 nights but the villa will not be cleaned at this point.

We regret that we have to remove cleaning products, food and drinks due to health and safety considerations.
You can expect prompt attendance to problems or breakdowns providing they are reported during your holiday, otherwise we regret that these can be considered as information only.

If you have any general questions about the villa or the area, Mike will be happy to help wherever he can.

What we expect from you

·         Respect the property, furniture, fixtures and fittings.

·         Leave it in a reasonable condition of cleanliness and order on departure

·         Use the swimming pool in a responsible manner (see the next page).

When you leave the villa at the end of your holiday we ask that you return everything to its place, leave linen on the beds take rubbish to the municipal containers and leave the villa in a clean condition.

The villa owner or holiday rental agency would have taken a damages deposit from you which will be returned to you within an agreed period after your departure from the Villa. They will decide on the amount to return based on a report sent by VHS. This will include any additional cleaning costs which may have been incurred if the villa is left in an unsuitable condition, damage to the property or contents and utility consumption (unless a prepayment arrangement has been agreed).

In most cases the full deposit will be returned without deductions except for utilities (where applicable).

Please remember to report any problems to VHS immediately.

Arrival and Departure Times

Arrival and departure times should already have been agreed with the villa owners or holiday rental agency. However, during the busy (summer) season, completion of the servicing may be delayed or, if you have a late flight, you may be without accommodation for a few hours.
The best way to avoid any inconvenience is to speak with Mike in good time. He will do his best to help

Your Swimming Pool

The swimming pool is usually cleaned once a week.

Please don't leave toys in the pool whilst not in use, keep it topped up with the hose-pipe provided and always shower off BEFORE bathing. Failure to observe these points could result in a green pool that you won’t be able to use for several days.
The first sign of problems is cloudiness in the water. This is quite normal after a day’s heavy use but the water should clear overnight.

For your health and safety -

·         Please supervise children at all times

·         Take care with glasses around the pool, broken glass is difficult to detect underwater

·         Report persistent cloudiness of the water promptly

·         Don't remove tablets from skimmer or allow children to touch them

·         Never swim alone at night or after a heavy meal

Air Conditioning and Heating

Please be aware of approx. conversion values Fahrenheit to Celsius. 68° equals 20° C and 72° equals 22°. This is the “comfort zone”.  Setting the thermostat or remote control outside of this range can cause unnecessary use of utilities and other problems, especially with air-con units.
A setting below 20
° (68°) is likely to cause the unit to ice-up, switch off and then flood the room with water from the melting ice.

If the unit should achieve the temperature you would probably wake up freezing cold and with a raging thirst because the unit also removes moisture from the air.

Using it with door or windows open could also cause icing-up.

The best way to use air-con: Spray with room with insect repellent (if necessary), close the door and window, switch the unit on 30 minutes before you go to bed and leave it on all night. In the morning switch off and open the door and window to air the room.

Emergency Numbers

Always call Mike first; if you can't get him, the next best is the Municipal Police. Just speak English, slowly and clearly. Remember to prefix +34 on your mobile, from UK it is 0034 then the number. They will want the address of the villa so have that handy.

For minor health problems a chemist (Farmacia) can help. The pharmacist will decide if you need a doctor or hospital. There is always one pharmacist on duty 24/7. Every chemist shop has a list of the duty chemists’ rota the door "Farmacias de Guardia"

In an emergency you have to decide for yourself. You can call an ambulance but probably best to take the patient to the Asistel Clinic or the Medical Centre in Teulada, both open 24/7.
Assistel will charge but you can probably claim on your travel insurance - ask for a bill. The Medical Centre is PROBABLY free if you show your passport.

Emergency & Useful Numbers (Listed)

Mike: 619 735 436 or 965 744 096

Moraira Taxi 24/7 (Emma): 679 342 170
Municipal Police: 965 740 946

Medical Centre Teulada: 965 740 176
Assistel Clinic: 966 495 006
Water Company (Emergency): 900 720 146
Fire Brigade: 965 781 185 or 085
British Consulate: 902 109 356 or 91 334 2194

Personal difficulties or problems with the authorities

Mike will help you all he can. If he has to attend out of his office he might make a charge but would provide a bill for your insurance company if required.

If you lose your documents you probably would not be permitted to board the aircraft for your flight home without a passport or national ID document and have to get a temporary travel document from the consul. Before doing this you have to report the loss or theft to the Guardia Civil.
Unless your Spanish is fluent you would need an interpreter at the police station.
If you lose credit cards you must inform the CC Company immediately. Most cards carry an emergency number but this is not much help if it is lost or stolen; best to note the number elsewhere as well.

On the road - if you breakdown or have an accident. Before anything, put on the reflective jacket then place the reflective triangles at visible points, at least 25 metres in each direction. Keep everyone in the car if there is no pavement and call the number on the hire-car document.

If you have an accident, there should be a document in the car papers called a "Parte". This should be completed by both drivers. The other driver may have one, so you both fill this one in as well.

If anyone is injured or you need a breakdown truck, call Mike or the Municipal Police.

Beaches

The character of the Moraira area coastline, with its cliffs and dramatic headlands means that the beaches are mainly in small coves and bays.

The Main Moraira Village Beach, Playa la Ampolla is quite large and safe for children, as it shelves quite gently and is generally protected from big waves.
The beach is well served by bars, restaurants etc, there are public toilets, showers and a lifeguard during the summer season.

Moraira has another beach at el Portet which is not as large as the Moraira Main Beach but is more closely protected by the headland and one side and the Moraira Marina on the other.

There are many other coves and bays along the coast with sandy or sand/rock beaches, all of which are well worth exploring.

Moraira Tourist Office

- located in Casa de la Por at the entrance to Moraira, on the Moraira/Teulada Road close to the Barclay Centre and open every day during the summer season. Here you will find virtually everything you need to know about Moraira including current events, organised excursions and other municipal services.

Fiestas in Moraira

Moraira Village Fiestas are held on the 15th and 16th of July each year in honour of La Virgén de los Desamparados (The Virgin of the Helpless) and La Virgén Carmen (Patron of the Fishermen).

The celebrations start in earnest on 15th and the 16th is a local holiday.

Moors & Christians Fiestas are probably the most popular events in Moraira and take place on the 3rd weekend in June.
Most towns have a Moors & Christians fiesta and these celebrate the expulsion of the Moors from Valencia by the Christians.

The Teulada Town Fiesta is held during the week after Easter week in honour of the local saint and town patron, San Vicente Ferrer.

The event is held every year and the celebrations are much the same as the Moraira Village fiesta.

La Font Santa (Holy Fountain) Fiesta. Font Santa is situated just outside Moraira adjoining the Go-Kart track that borrows the name.

The festival is held at the beginning of July and celebrates the occasion when St Vicente Ferrer was travelling to see his sister in Teulada. It was a hot day, he was really thirsty, fed up and whacked a rock with his walking-stick from which water began to flow.

GENERAL

Fallas de San Jose

19th March

San Jose is the patron saint of the State of  Valencia.  Huge wax and paper mäché statues are burned in the streets of all the main towns.
In Alicante and Valencia there are dozens that are torched one after the other.
The nearest towns to Moraira that have Fallas are Denia and Benidorm

Street Markets

Moraira Market - is held every Friday morning and is located just behind the town, in the large car-park.

The market opens around 9 AM, sometimes earlier, and close at lunchtime.
Moraira market is the most popular in the area and visitors flock into Moraira from surrounding towns.

Apart from the exciting, crowded atmosphere it is probably true that there better quality and cheaper fruit and vegetables than can usually be obtained in the Moraira supermarkets.

Moraira market also offers a wide range of other products including carpets, clothing, leather wear, household linen, jewellery, watches and domestic electrical equipment.

As the market occupies what is normally the car park, there can be serious parking problems.
The traffic wardens collect a fortune in parking fines on Friday – so beware!

Dining out

You will find Cafeterias, Bars & Snacks all over Moraira and they open all hours. Some cater for the workmen from around 7 am, others remain open until 2 am.

Tapas - are available in many Spanish bars and get their name from the custom of placing a slice of bread with a morsel of meat or fish on a drink in order to keep the flies out.
These days they consist of a whole range of pre-cooked delicacies which are displayed in a refrigerated glass showcase. You choose a selection which is served up on the bar with bread and a drink - A good alternative to other fast food options!
In Moraira you can get tapas at Meson el Refugio (c/ Almacenes) Bar Costa Blanca (c/ Dr Calatalud) or Rey de la Tapas (Moraira – Calpe Road) and most bars in Teulada.

Platos Combinados - Another alternative to a full meal are the various Snacks or Platos Combinados available in the many bars and cafeterias.
All are worth trying but worth a special mention are Sid’s Bar or Hollys on the Square in Moraira (Plaza de la Iglesia) which offer an wide range of different breakfasts, jacket potatoes, snacks and main meals.

Fish & Chips etc - At the European Shopping Centre is Topper's Fish & Chips with the customary accompaniments such as mushy peas, roast chicken, pies etc. You could also try David’s Fish & Chips (along the Cape road, just past the 1st roundabout). Both also have Curries and Kababs. They are takeaways but they also have a few tables, inside and out.

The International Bar at San Jaime in Moraira is right in front of the large Pepe La Sal Supermarket (men who "help" with the shopping take note!) and, although only of the Snack-bar category, provides everything from a salad to a Sunday roast.

Sports Bars - where you can watch important events on a large screen TV: Bar 21 (at the end of Camino del Campamento), Tich’s Bar (Camino del Paellero) and the Mojo Bar (European Shopping Centre.

Pizzas and Pastas are available at several restaurants, notably Pizzeria Tigre in Moraira Village (Plaza del la Iglesia) and the Gemisant Restaurant and Pizzeria just outside Moraira on the Moraira/Calpe Road.

Oriental Cuisine is well represented and there are Chinese Restaurants everywhere. The Pato Pekin in Baladrar specialises in Peking Duck. The Xin Xiang (just past the filling station in Moraira) is conveniently situated, economically priced and seldom crowded. They have a large car-park and you can stroll around the village after eating without having to move your car, but please ask permission first.

Indian: If you are looking for a curry there is the Indian Palace in Moraira Village (c/ Tosqueres) and the Kathmandu in Camino de Pallero, in front of the Gemisant.

Night Life

There are numerous small bars and cafeterias and, as darkness falls and night-life takes over, the many restaurants begin to fill and the Moraira evening strollers appear.
Moraira has a street market, open every evening during the summer season, offering local handicrafts, jewellery and clothing.

The Teulada-Moraira town hall promotes musical, artistic and cultural events; details of these are available at the Moraira Tourist Information Office.
Many Moraira bars and restaurants have live entertainment - flamenco guitarists, jazz and blues, pop music etc. The Spanish people just love to sing and (generally have good singing voices).

There is a disco-bar, Saxo, (Moraira-Calpe road, on the corner with Camino del Campamento) with interior dance-floor (sound-proofed and air-conditioned). The Algas Centre (Moraira-Calpe road, just before the 1st roundabout) provides open-air drinks and snacks, on the cliff edge overlooking the sea, with recorded music, and there are several other late-night establishments.

Best Wishes again for an Enjoyable and Relaxing Holiday in Moraira!
